I don't know the right term for it but I think I short-circuited my USB ( if that's possible). Here's what happened, I plugged in my USB stick at a port that didn't have that black thing at the receiving end, then my computer flashed 'power overload on the hub'. I was still able to use my USB at another computer before this happened. Now, i am no longer able to use it in any other computer (i.e. it doesn't flash it's red light anymore, and it's not being detected by my PC) What happened?! And how do i solve this prob? Thanks in advance...

That black thing you speak of is to prevent a USB cable/device from being plugged in incorrectly. Unless it's a defect in the motherboard or it snapped off, I suspect it's not a USB port that you plugged it into.

In any case, it's exactly what the error described. You probably shorted a couple pins and overloaded it. It's most likely dead.
