if you can afford the e8400, i would suggest the phenom ii x4 940 black edition.

as other says, performance wise the e8400 wins
here is a nice website for cpu comparison charts

The e8400 hundred are fast and scored like 1900 hundred at the CPU benchmark..But when I can overclock my little 70 bucked underdog AMD 250 and score 1887 something in processing ratings that tells me alot about the AMDS true to dollar per dollar contender..For 167 hell I would go for the PhenomII 945 like dirst mountain tells you and fly away from the E8400 hundred like there was no tommorow..hahahahahaa Dollar for dollar is the battle my friend and in this economy that is what wins...

romeo asked for performance, not performance per dollar or economy or anything. And if it has nothing to do with multithreading beyond 2 cores (probably 98% of all applications and games), then it is E8400 hands down.

While true, anyone asking that question is probably better off knowing what price/performance actually means.

i only knowing that microcenter and compusa sale it cheaper than athlons, also some local retailer sale it cheaper since it's an year old product and athlon 2 x2 250 is new product as these retailler do not wish to lower the price despite athlon's performance much less than e8400.

i dont know about etailer like amazon and newegg, but as i look up on their e8400 i can tell they can control the price as e8400 is the top sell processor.(go look at it, it's the top rate right now) making it expansive will bring huge profit to these etailler as less popular product like q8200 sale as low as 109 because of low profile. so basically these info aint correct

Let's see, Compusa price for the E8400 is .......... $179.99

Now let me check their price for the AthlonII x2 250............... hmmm $79.99
http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4695458&Sku=A79-0250

Now how about a PhenomII x4 945 .........$174.99. WoW that's $5 cheaper then the E8400.

cheesesubs is just a intel fanboi (oi because most intel fags are just that).

I don't hate intel, not at all. but you can see a troll fanboi when he presents his little face and giant nose.

on a serious note. $76 dollars for a cpu that is only 5% worse than something that is $180 dollars, I would have to be a complete moron to spend 100 dollars for only 5% more power......

As others have said op, if your willing to spend 180 on an intel, spend 180 on an amd, and I guarantee, the AMD is better. But if money doesn't matter, get a i7 lol
