Unless he means desktop which would mean a Intel Core i7 tri channel DDR3 based mobo which can support up to 24GB:

Thats 6x4GB.

A non tri channel mobo would be 4x4GB or 16GB (for Core i5, Core 2 Quad and Phenom II).
