Computer stuck in standby

my acer laptop seems to be stuck in standby . my start screen is on, restart and turnoff are lit, standby is dark. can't restart or turnoff or get anywhere else

Hi Unplug your laptop and take out the battery. Leave for about 20 minutes and put your battery back in. Restart your laptop. It may say windows was shut down unexpectredly and give you startup options. If so start in safe mode. Go to Control Panel power options and turn off standby and hibernation ( whether you start up in safe mode or normally). Restart your laptop.
