An SSD overcomes most of a mechanical drives limitations.

It depends on what you are trying to make faster!

Some processes will benefit from more memory before faster drives.
Some are made better with an SSD for your system drive.
Some require speeding up the whole of your data drives. With terabyte drives out there, some people can't afford terabyte SSDs as replacements.

What exactly are you trying to speed up?

SSD's show negligible performance gain over traditional HDD's. And especially at their price points. I'm all about whats new cool and fast but please give me my 7200rpm striped RAID drives.
