Out of pure curiosity...

Which would be best for gaming at 1680 x 1080 resil? How about other GPU processes?

Comparing a desktop GPU with 2 Mobile GPUs ? well 7950GX2 is an old tech card i don't recommend getting it,if u plz post your system specs and your budget u may find better options,

Depends. If you want to play crisis at ultra at that res none of those cards will work. Personally I use a GTS250, and that resolution (1680 * 1020) That card is able to mac out crisis with 4x AA, presuming you run a intel dual core or AMD quad, If you are running intel dual 2.3Ghz or less or any AMD dual you can forget about AA, (bottleneck im suffering...) Check my specs

The GTS 160m is comparable to a desktop 8800 GT which is far faster than the 7950 GX2. The 8700m GT is somewhere between a 8500 GT and an 8600 GT, not great.

The one he is looking at is actually a 9700, Asus special. But in reality, it's only a jump up to a desktop 9500 GT

7950gx2 out of those is the fastest. Are you planning to get a new card?

Reply to invisik

im not planning on getting a new card i just wanna know which out of these would be the fastest at running games at 1680x1020 resolution.

The 7950gx2 is old but isnt it TWO 7950 GTs in one? with 1 gb of vram .. vs 512 mb for the other two?

HOWEVER.. the 9700m is two generations newer, and the 160m gts is three generations newer..

any thoughts with reasoning?

Ah ok, well the 9700m GT is about where you put it.

No, the GTS 160m is far faster. It is very similar to an 8800 GT which destroys a 7950 GX2.

Desktop 8800GT:

GTS 160M:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/produ [...] 0m_us.html

8800GT has 112 Stream Processors and GTS 160M has 64,so a 8800GT is faster than a GTS 160M,GTS 160M performs between a desktop 8800GTS 640M and a 8800GT,so overall its a better choice than 7950GX2

That is interesting...

9800GTX & q6600 3.2GHz
Crysis benchmark:
1680x1050 NoxAA veryhigh 18fps(totally unplayable)
1680x1050 NoxAA high 36fps(playable but not enjoyable)

Who your GTS250(GTS250 = 9800GTX) can max out crisis with 4x AA 1680x1050?
Of course you are not telling the truth… :pfff:

Take note that i run windows 7, which is more efficient (as in runs games like crisis, farcry, fallout3 etc with better results than winxp). May I say, maybe your system is a little strange. A strong dual core (3GHZ) and a 9800GTX+ should be able to run crisis very high out without AA, Where the video card is not working at it's full potential, with a quad core you should be able to enable 4x AA and very high setting at a very playable frame rate. (35FPS and a small drop once every 20 minutes)

Further, the hardware demand from high to very high is not a very big difference. really it's only DX9 to DX10. The frame rates should be similar, maybe 3FPS difference. I don't understand why your frame rate is halfed.

Sorry for going off topic, 7950GX2 is probably the best call fastest, warmest, most power consuming, probably bigger too. Its more of everything

Windows 7 are not faster in games than vista or xp
http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid [...] ce/?page=2

Here are same benchmarks with the GTS250 & Intel Core i7 965 Extreme
http://www.tomshardware.com/review [...] 172-6.html
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews [...] _GB/9.html
as you can see the the GTS250 get:

21fps in 1680x1050 veryhigh NoxAA
16fps in 1680x1050 veryhigh 4xAA

So stop misinforming people. Crysis wouldn’t have this kind of reputation if PCs like yours could max it out…

the 9700M GT is a renamed 8600 GT M might be over clocked but it sucks no matter what.

The 9700M GTS is visibily better, its not packing 32 SP its pack 48, but the superior card there is the 160M I beleive.

Sorry my mistake i thought the 160m was a re-badged 8600. Cant keep up with nvidia renaming plan. =P
