I've got a Philips HDR-312 TiVo with an extra 80 gig hard drive
and lifetime service. One of the drive is failing, probably
the original 30 gig drive. Does anyone know of someone who
would want to buy it?

Are you joking or serious? I've been trying to determine a
fair price to ask, but haven't been able to find a similar
auction to get a price. Obviously the lifetime subscription
is worth $300, plus the value of the box itself. Anybody
care to make an offer?

Have you looked on ebay to check out your competition? I would expect
this box to sell somewhere between $200 and $400 - how much exactly
varies quite a bit.

BTW, it's not obvious the lifetime sub is worth $300. That may be how
much it is worth if someone were to buy it today, but it hasn't always
been that high. Plus, with a series 1, the lifetime sub isn't ~as
valuable~ as a series 2 since a series 1 can actually function without
service (well, the vast majority of them can) whereas a series 2 is a
door stop without service.

You could easily get about $300 for it on ebay even if you're honest and
list it as having a bad hard drive.
What I'd do is determine which drive is failing and then re-image the good
one and sell it as a single drive unit. With the 30GB drive you may only
get about $250, but you could still get about $300 with the 80GB drive
("upgraded" is always worth more). Then I'd sell the bad drive and mounting
bracket in seperate auctions.

The beauty of auction sites is that the market will determine the price (or value)
of an item.
Just list it for a penny and 7 days later, you'l have probably around $200-300 worth
of bids, or whatever it's really worth.
That's how I sell all my junk on eBay.
