forgot to mention that i am running a p4 1.8 in a dell optiplex gx260 and want to upgade to a p4 2.8 the difference i can see in the cpus is the fsb spped.
if your coming from a northwood 1.8 (18x100) to a northwood "c" (14x200, same VRM and pinout design) and the motherboard does not support 800mhz fsb it will most likely post and work with the P4 2.8 but will run at only 1.86hz (14x133)
if it is a prescott core you will more then likely burn out your motherboard
you still can get 2.8 northwoods with 400mhz fsb (rare OEM chip) and 533mhz off ebay perhaps if you look around too but being such an old cpu with such poor performance i wouldnt bother - both share the same old architecture
