I will be having it built because I'm not able to find time to learn how to build myself yet. although I am looking forward to this one day.
I may not be using this to it's full potential currently, but I'm hoping it will last for 3 years. Hopefully current games will run full settings and next gen games will run at medium settings or something.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Is everything compatible and will these part work together well?
2. Will I be able to overclock it or is it too close to 1.65v??
3. Will I even need to overclock it if I'm just ripping some FallOut 3 or the next gen Battlefield game??
4. Do I need any extra case fans or a different heatsink?? I have had one person suggest an aftermarket heat sink. There is a concern with heat as my computer will be in the hottest part of the room for at least another 6 months (near sunny window).
5. Are my HD selections appropriate? the two 500gb WDs will be in RAID 1 while the caviar black will be my personal (non business stuff)
6. Is there anything I'm forgetting to ask?
Thanks very much for your help, this community has been almost suspiciously pleasant Franklin
1. yes
2. yes, but you should get an aftermarket cooler
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6835207006 3. nope
4. The i7/1366 runs pretty hot, i'd use an aftermarket heatsink even if i wasn't overclocking in a warm room.
5. Fine, i might go with 2 WD caviar black 640GB in RAID.
6.Nope. I like APC brand UPS, just in case do a little research.
5. Fine, i might go with 2 WD caviar black 640GB in RAID.
agreed with this. do you really need that much hard drive space to begin with? most of us wouldn't need more than 2 640's unless you play with video or download a lot of music or something. i would also consider a larger power supply in case you decide to add another gpu some day.
thanks guys. I will add a heatsink because I am worried about it overheating.... and I do need that much space... the RAID means that really I have only 500gigs for business (mirrored right?)... and I want to separate pleasure and pain you know... and I don't typically delete anything (pack rat) so I end up with lots of stuff kicking around (complete tv shows, movies, albums etc).
Any other thoughts... this is my first build... wanna make sure it's good.
