system info indicates upgradable from 32 to 64 bit

any chance this could work?

There is no upgrade path from a 32 bit OS to a 64 bit, it is not possible. A fresh installation is required. No matter what DELL says.

OP - that just indicates you have a 32 bit OS running on a processor that's capable of 64 bit.
