Was wondering, something I really have been wanting to do
anyway here is the rig im building ( already have some of the parts )
PSU: OCZ OCZ600SXS 600w Stealth Xstream (already have)
Video card: SAPPHIRE ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 (already have )
CPU: INTEL CORE 2 EXTREME 2.93GHZ ( on its way suppose to be a good OC CPU if needed to be )
RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (4 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066MHz ( on its way )
will that run the game on ultra high? I am also running some custom skins and AI traffic.
were you going to tell us the monitors resolution, or do we just guess?
actually you dont have to tell us since the answer is definitely NO , unless you are using an ancient crt with an 800 x 600 resolution and then you might have a shot
Nothing, it will run maxed out, as will any game. What you need to think about is how smoothly/quickly will it run on that setup you mentioned, and what is a realistic goal for you, does it need to be 60, or will 30 do.
no, i7's can't run the thing maxed out when they're overclocked to 4GHz and they have 4x the threads as that CPU has, assuming that CPU is the X6800 not the QX6800.
even then the i7 is still extremely powerful compared to the QX6800.

Yes, many pc's can run it maxed, I can max it on my pc, just not maxxed and full speed. I can however, set the sliders and details to maximum if I so choose.
O.k, well lets assume winningfreak actually want to play the game maxed out and not watch it as a slide show. Anyway that game is pretty demanding so you will be able to play it on high settings, probably, but maxed out and smooth, no. If you set it to maxed out you will get some slow down especially if you import some big custom stuff. Also, the game seems to do better with NVIDIA cards as opposed to ATI cards. Overclocking your CPU would certainly help. Just make sure that you get a good aftermarket cooler to overclock with.

Below 30 fps gets a bit tedious IMO . The low resotion of the TV screen will take a bit of pressure off the gfx card so the OP's build is going to be able to run it with a bit of tweaking of texture distances .
Spend a bit more on a graphics card would be a quick path to better performance .
a 4890 , or GTX 275 are pretty affordable and a have noticeably more grunt than the 4870 512
That CPU is somewhat of a poor choice for FSX - you really should go with a quad. FSX is one of the few games that really does scale with more threads.
