APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: the closer the better

BUDGET RANGE: US $2000 (maybe a little over if needed)

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: gaming, internet use, music

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: keyboard, mouse, speakers, hp w2007 20 in. LCD monitor

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg.com is preffered

PARTS PREFERENCES: N'vidia based card, intel CPU

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Maybe

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1680x1050

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I've managed to save up enough money for a new gaming rig. I would like to be able to max out any modern gen games (mostly fps) with a decent framerate. I realize the monitor isn't the best but it's all I have space for at the time. Thanks for any suggestions and advice.

Well, $2000 is quite a bit to work with. How about we just lay out a system that will meet your needs, and then figure out where to improve after that.

With a resolution of "just" 1680x1050, I believe you can probably build a really great gaming machine for around 1250$. Just bank the difference and keep it toward occasional upgrades over the years like a DX11 GPU when they come-out and the next batch of i7 CPUs.

If you really want to spend the 2000$, either consider getting SSD and/or consider getting at least a 1920x1200 monitor (24" ) to justify the spending.
