I am trying to decide between a Nvidia GTX 260 core 260 and a Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+. (Both would be EVGA cards @$150 or less)

The machine is an AMD dual core w/8 gig of memory running Vista 64, soon to be Windows 7.

The primary purpose will be video transcoding from h264 (AVHCD) to MPG or AVI using Media Encoder. I will also be attempting some video editing.

Game play will be minimal to none.

Will the GTX260 give me a noticeably higher transcode rate then the 9800 GTX+.

Thanks for any suggestions or thoughts.

J

GTX 260 have more stream processors

Get the GTX 260 Core 216

In short GTX 260 will be about 125% better than the 9800GTX I estimate

So stream processors are the key?

I assume that the onboard memory difference will help too?

Thanks for your opinion.
