Ugrading processor

OK i have a computer with a core 2 duo and i wanna upgrade its prossesor, the only problem is that im not sure if the chip i wanna get is quite right. I wanna upgraded my core 2 duo to a core quan. the slot is rigth put when i upgade do i need to worry about nm tech. My current chip is 60nm and as you know the current now is 45nm.
