Connect SB X-fi extreme to video card

I am trying to get audio through an HDMI cable. I have a SoundBlaster X-Fi Extreme (the blue one) and a GeForce 9800GT. I see the audio connection on the video card but not an internal output on sound card. Is this connection even physically possible?...and yes I know the better way would be to use optical cable connection, but my receiver for 5.1 sound bit the dust. So no surround sound for me for a bit.

I don't think the X-fi's have the necessary 2-pin SPDIF header to make the connection happen.
