Townhouse signal boost

My townhouse association is paying for us all to have wireless internet, but since my computer is in the basement, the signal is very weak. They are using a Meraki MR58 Router. I called Meraki and they told me that I had to purchase an access point from them. Is it possible to purchase a different repeater or access point to boost the signal?

  1. So long as the wireless is G standard any brand should match -- if they are using wireless N, it is better to stick to the same brand.

As terminology can be confusingly different between brands the advice to stick to Meraki may be sensible. Also, if you have problems, won't have one maker putting blame on the other.
  2. Thanks. Do you have a particular brand/model that you would recommend?
