Forum CPU & Components : CPUs Deneb 940 showing 800mhz?

I'm looking at different things on my new build. AMD Phenom II X4 940 BE and for some reason it's reading 800mhz. I have a Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P motherboard and the bios is updated to the latest F8 version. I don't have the Gigabyte energy saver app installed on my PC and I've set the bios at optimized default. What am I doing wrong? This is supposed to be a 3.0Ghz processor.

Cool n' quiet is enabled. When it is enabled it downclocks the clock and voltages when your not doing anything cpu intensive to keep heat and power consumption down. Once you start doing something more cpu intensive like gaming and such it goes up to full 3ghz. If you want to you can go into the bios and disable Cool n' quiet and it will run at 3ghz constantly.

Thanks man, I just did a search, what a jackass I am. I found someone else with the same problem and I just disabled cool and quiet and now it's displaying properly 3020mhz multiplier of 15 instead of 4.

Thanks again.

Well to use your own description, don't be a jackass. TURN IT BACK ON. Its NOT a problem. Its a feature of the chip and should be left on.

The Cool N' Quiet must be pretty intuitive. So if the CPU calls for more resources depending on the program I'm using it's given to me instantaneous?

Reply to rp350z

I personally don't notice a difference in performance with cool n quiet on/off, the processor does a great job instantly clocking back up when needed.

I agree, leave Cool 'N' Quiet turned on.

+1 leave it on. No difference in performance...
