Hi,

I've been reading quite a bit of articles related with the new family mobile CPU intel i7 and all of them end up with the following prices: i7-720QM $364; i7-820QM $546 and i7-920XM $1,054 but I want to focus just on the two first versions....The price difference is $182 !!!

OK, now is what I'd like some help... Dell released few weeks ago Studio 15 and Studio 17 with new i7 processors....

I actually got the Studio 15 i7-720QM since the difference from i7-820QM for those laptops is a full $400,00
but if both computers would use the same mobo and DDR3 where that difference came from ?????

And it's possible upgrade a laptop CPU....I mean, get a i7-820QM without any other change ????

Well the the difference between i7 720 and 820 is that the second one has 8MB cache whereas the first on has 6MB,also 820 is 100Mhz faster(With turbo disabled) and 200Mhz faster (With Turbo enabled) so overall the difference isn't much unless u do some very CPU intensive apps which benefit from the extra cache,otherwise i don't think $182 is worth it

The difference in price is because Dell will charge whatever they think people will pay. Yes it's possible to upgrade a laptop cpu, but it's usually not easy or worth it.
