So I don't want to spend more than $600 on this, and I already have a monitor, so that's not an issue. I know I still need a case, but besides that, there's still about $75 to play with. I'm looking for suggestions to make this better/what kind of case I should get without spending more money than I have.

Thanks.

For a case look at the antec 300

That PSU is not enough to power a 4850 so switch up to an EA500 from antec

Also that ram wont work as the motherboard only supports DDR3

Its good ram, a bit more expensive but thats the way DDR3 is.

Are you planning on overclocking? If not you can ditch the aftermarket cooler.

I would also suggest the XFX over the ASUS as it exhausts heat out the back and has a better cooler, mine runs quite cool, and its only $10 more with a double lifetime warranty.

If you need DDr3 Ram, that's the stuff to get.

If you want a really nice PSU for 30$, check out this Corsair.

400W is more than enough to power your systems- people have powered GTX 260s on that thing, so you'll be fine.

Everything else looks good, you've got great parts for great prices.
If you want a bigger harddrive, get a WD Caviar Black 640gb drive. It's 75$, but if you want a fast and large drive, that's your ticket.

Good Luck :hello:

So I ditched the aftermarket cooler as you suggested, jbakerlent, picked up the case that you suggested, hunter315, picked up your DDR3 ram and PSU, radiowars. So I actually think I'm all set.

Thanks a lot for the help guys, I honestly didn't expect such helpful responses so quickly.

:)

Dont use the 400 watt corsair to power the 4850 that specifically recommends a 500 watt PSU. PSU's are only good until you put too much load on them, once you pass their specs they arent required not to become a firework. Dont skimp on the PSU, its $20 more to get the EA500 in the combo and it is guarenteed to provide enough power.

I dont mean to imply that corsair doesnt make good PSU's but dont skimp on the PSU its just a bad idea. Plus the EA500 is quite efficient and runs rather cool which is nice.

Oh and i definitely second the HDD recomendation, recently built a similar system and my old seagate is definitely the slowest part by a good deal, im going to pick up a caviar black soon.
