Firmware update: How?

I was trying to burn a dvd disk for the first time with this writer and Windows said it was unsuccessful and to update the firmware. So I downloaded the file but I don't know how to go through the update process and Asus' website doesn't have instruction on how to do so (at least, I was unable to find it if they do).

is it a windows installer or a dos installer or a flash installer!

Not sure, it didn't come with any instruction and there wasn't any available on the website that I could find. All I know is that it's a .exe file, and when I double click it the black box appears that looks similar to command prompt, but no characters appear in the box and it disappears shortly after appearing.
