Help selecting hard drive

I am looking forward to buy a 500 GB hard drive. I haven't had a very good experience with my previous Seagate 7200.11 1TB hard drive. I was thinking of going for WD Black's but they are relatively expensive to Seagate 7200.12 500 GB. wonder how good the 7200.12 are after Seagate's infamous problems with 7200.11

On a side note : How better is x3 500 GB raid 0 setup than a x2 500 GB raid 0 apart from the capacity perspective ?

  1. I would look at the Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB, instead of either of those drives.

The Seagate 7200.12 does have better firmware than the 7200.11 drive, so it is a better drive to go with, but the WD Black would be my second choice.

x3 vs x2 RAID isn't much better performance wise. If you are looking for speed, the SSD is the way to go!
