Is it possible to have two or more computer with their own monitors to work together with one keyboard and mouse. Its kind of hard to explain. Im not talking about a kvm switch. I'll give an example: lets say i have an mp3 on computer 1 desktop. I click and drag across the screen to the next screen and drop it there copying it to computer 2. I know its abit strange but it its possible I would love to get all three of my computers networked like that, instead of using kvm switches to use each pc.

Even if the computers were networked together there still would have to be some sort of logically virtual connection between each monitor that would correspond with the machines.

Its like having 2 usb storage drives, you can click and drag files from one to the other, but in between there is an operating system that manages it. What you are implying is from operating system to operating system but with one main operating system in the background to connect both operating systems together

Something like you explained would require the monitor cables to both be video as well as network with intermediate software to configure and manage the settings. Also, if there was 3 computers on 3 different montiors but connected so you could drag and drop, which computer would you plug the keyboard into? As it would only work the computer its plugged into, right? Cos you have to install the keyboard and I don't know how plug and play would work, might need resource sharing but pfft, beyond my league of knowledge.

I haven't seen or heard of this but the concept is actually quite innovative, it could exist but would like to come across it. I really do like what you've asked, to me it sounds like future-tech-networking.

I have figured out how to use the mouse an keyboard between computer screens without the use of a kvm switch. However, dragging files is not yet possible for me.

THere won't be like I said, as there has to be some interface to connect the operating systems through the monitor. What did you use to allow 3 computers and monitors to connect together with one keyboard and mouse?

I used a program called synergy. Its really cool. all i have to is move my mouse over to the next screen and i can use the other comuter. You should try it out. its actually free. I have vista on one pc and there other two are running xp. It also lets you set up mutiple monitors for one pc. I used each computers' ip to setup, so i think you could even use this with a laptop. no wires or anything. thanks for your input.

heres the link let me know what you think

Thats interesting, I'll give that a shot when I have some time this weekend.

In regards to drag and drop, I found out that a way to do this is using Remote desktop, but you can't drag and drop, it has to be copy and paste and you have to allow access to both hard drives when you enable it.

I did see this software and I think it might do what you need:

And its no problem, I enjoy talking about it, its the first time I can go on forums and not argue with people. :pt1cable:
