I was looking to build a new computer for around $600. I have this build, and was wondering if any of you had any better suggestions.

CPU: Amd phenom II x3 720
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P
Heatsink:XIGMATEK HDT-S1283
Graphics Card:Sapphire HD 4850 1gb
Memory:G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
Hard Drive: WD 640GB
Case:Cooler Master
Psu:Antec 430W
Artic Silver 5 ]
DVD Drive (Samsung is sold out): Sony

I'm using this combo for the Graphics Card and CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Comb [...] mbo.206784
Should I use this combo instead: phenom II x3 720 + Asus Motherboard

Combo with the mother board. The 430 isnt quite strong enough for a 4850, two changes i would make, swap the graphics card for this one

$5 more for lifetime warranty and a dual slot cooler to push the heat out the back. Also switch the power supply to this one.

Modular, more powerful, and less expensive than the one you picked after MIR, both antec and OCZ are good brands but you need more power than the 430 watts for a 4850.

Switch your ram to either

or if you are willing to spend a bit more for tighter timings

At the price of that graphics card, would a 4870 with 512mb be a better deal:

The mobo the OP listed is DDR2, not DDR3.

Change your mobo or try this memory:

The diference in performance will be minimal switching to a mobo with DDR3, but will give you a better upgrade path. If you're like me, and build new every 3-4 years, stick with that mobo and DDR2.

An Antec Earthwatts 380 can run a 4850 (Tom's used this some months ago); the 430 will have no problem with it.
If you choose a 4870 though, you will need something stronger, like an Earthwatts 500.

And for $20 more, I'd go with this combo. 940 with same mobo.

I'm using the second combo with the asus motherboard, the earthwatts 500w, and a 4870 512mb. How does that sound?

I think you'll like it. Have fun.

Switch the heatsink to the dark night.

It is a little more expensive but it looks better and comes with a better fan and the motherboard retention bracket.
