I am looking into purchasing either of these:

SPM394:http://www.datoptic.com/esata-hardware-raid-controller-spm394.html
SPM393-S: http://www.datoptic.com/5x-drive-hardware-raid-controller.html

Does anyone know if there are any published measurements for performance? Would both of these perform somewhat identical, so could I go with the cheaper one (doesn't have a fancy LCD, but that is of little value to me).

I am just interested in RAID (raid5 to be specific) and the performance of it. All the rest is not important to me. So, from a RAID perspective, does anyone know what the differences are? Can I use the GUI interface for both products (from their download section)?

There are no different in performance as i can tell.

With 3TB Hitachi 7200rpm, and AHCI host the transfer rate is 230MB~250MB/s.

Obviously, the SMP394 can be used in freeNAS better than SPM393, because there is no FreeBSD RAID GUI, so the LCD is pretty handy.

Update: July 2013 - the SPM394 does has temperature probe that monitoring temp 24/7, where the SPM393 does not
