Use windows xp or 2k for fastest performance. windows xp 64 was extremely fast, but be sure to use microsoft's malicious software with it. It's free; it finds trojans and fixes them instantly without having to reboot. You can also use a 32 or 64 gb ssd when the price drops. 32 gb run around $70 after rebate; 64 mb around $100 for the kingston value series. I had no trouble making a drive to drive copy with one of these using maxblast 5.
