  1. Is your OS 32 bit or 64 bit ?
  2. You may have a 32 bit version of ultimate, or your motherboard isn't recognizing all the ram, due to limitations of each ram slot. Run cpuid, a free download, to see what it reads.
  3. Okay I di that and under memory it says DDR2 4096 MBytes

Vista Ultimate comes with 2 DVD's. One for 32 bit, and one for 64 bit. Sounds very like you used the 32 bit.
  6. Well in system propeties it says Vista 64 bit Operating System

Can you explain this as i didnt get it?
  16. open an elevated command prompt (type cmd in the search box, right click the restult and choose 'Run As Administrator')

    type: msconfig

This brings up the configuration utility.

Click the Boot tab, and then click the Advanced Options button.

In that window, there is a setting for Maximum Memory - Make sure the checkbox for it is clear (not checked), then reboot your computer.
  17. here is what mine says

    2.50 GB
    64 - Bit Operating System

your right it was set at 2.5 Gig

when it boots in the black screen ram reads

2.50 again so could something in bios be holding it down

and is it running a 2.50 or all 4.00 Gig

    what do you think?
  19. Okay lost me on this

    open an elevated command prompt
  20. Okay Scotteq

I Googled open an elevated command prompt

    I got that done!

now when i reboot the startup black screen shows 2.50 Gig Memory

and once it reboots i look at computer properties and i shows 2.50 Memory

I looked in the setting for Maximum Memory and it saved no check mark so it is set

to unlimited is the something in the Bios that can limit memory?

  22. Try updating your BIOS to the latest version. Also did you buy 2 of the RAMs you linked ?
    I mean you have 2x2GB RAM ?
  23. Both Brand new 2 weeks old
  24. OK as i said update your BIOS,if it didn't help, then take one of the sticks of your RAM out and check whether it reports 2GB or not,do the same with another stick just to be sure they work fine in single mode
  25. will download an update bios and try single stick ram for both slots let you know what happens thanks
  26. well pulled Ram out and tried single install per slots and they read FINE
