Nigel,

yep, with the 163 and 173 and 192, it's CMOS battery.. Save yourself $20 and
replace it with a standard 3v coin battery. Panasonic and others usually number
it 2025.

Split open the shrink wrap tube, carefully peel the metal tabs off the old
battery, tape the leads onto the new battery - careful - of the polarity!
Either wrap electrical tape around the new batt or get a new piece of
shrink-wrap tubing, plug it back in and reset the time and date. It'll work
fine and you've just saved nearly $20 for the item and shipping off eBay.

The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.

Disagree. Buy the proper battery. His method is very unreliable, and
soldering the leads is out of the question. Just spring for the $$, the
battery is good for 4 years.

Agree to disagree. His method is very expensive. Unreliable? not hardly.
