I thought I would catch up on some of the old X-Files that air early in
the morning. I set up a season pass for first runs and repeats, but
when I look at the upcoming episoswa none are marked to be recorded. I
know I am doing something dumb. Any ideas?

Press on the remote:
TiVo (or the DirecTV logo, if applicable)
numeral '2'
Select

That should take you to the Recording History.

Look for an episode of the X-Files ont here, and select it to find out why
it won't record.

Another option is to find an episode that you'd like to record (via any
other means you like...) and choose "Record this episode also". I suspect
there is a conflict, and you will be told what is conflicting.

Some old episodes are not marked as repeat or first run. Those episodes
will be recorded if the SP option is set to ALL (with Duplicates).

This matters not to the TiVo software...it never looks at those flags
to make a "First Run" determination.

The "original air date" is all that is looked at, and if it less than a
week before the air date of the episode in question, then that episode
is considered "first run".

"Repeats and First Run" will try to record all episodes of a series except
for ones that fall under the "28-day rule" (episodes that were in Now
Playing in the last 28 days). The only other reason such a SP won't
succeed in recording a show is because of a conflict with a higher-priority
SP.
