Is an AMD Athlon FX-60 Dual Core @ 2.6Ghz faster than a pentium4 3GHz if both have 2 gigs of ram? I have a pentium 4 3 GHz with 2 gigs of ram and I've been given a computer with 2 gigs ram and Asus board with 939 socket that's only missing the processor, and I'm trying to decide if it's worth the 120 quid to buy the processor. Or is there another AMD processor for 939 socket that significantly out-performs a pentium4 3 Ghz, bearing in mind they'll both have the same 2 gigs of ram? Times are very tight and it's quite important as it's for music production and i'm actually making a meager living from it (very meager!) thanks so much
i have a AMD Athlon 64 ada 4600 daa 5bv, don't know how good/bad it is- but royal mail damaged it in delivery, i think 1 of the pins may have broken off so i imagine it's a goner. (although with pentiums, some pins are just for safety and they work fine-doubtfull but maybe?)
I wouldnt spend 120 quid on an old fx-60 like that. I would look for an Athlon 64 X2 4800+ and call it a day.
Also, forgot to mention, pretty much any processor that was made on the Socket 939 will outperform a Pentium 4. Don't pay a lick of attention to MHZ ratings between those two processors. The pentium 4's were a pile of shite.

Again, thanks very much everyone for helping out- in the end there's an Athlon 64 X2 4600+ (2.4GHz) for 55 quid that seems to be the best way out ( i think?)
