Installing Samsung HD502HJ

Hello,
I am having an older PC with a Abit AV8 motherboard. I purchased recently the Samsung HD502HJ 3.0Gbps Hard Drive and the computer is unable to detect this hard disk. Seeking assistance how I may be able to enable the computer to detect and install this disk. Thank you.

If a bios update doesn't fix it, I don't think anything will short of buying an add in card.

Thanks to all of you for your kind advice. I have tried all the recommendations suggested, short of configuring the setting the controller to AHCI mode, which I do not know how to implement this, but for some unknown reason the motherboard does not seem to recognise the hard drive.
In any case thanks to all of you kind members.

I was unsuccessful in installing the SATA II hard drive as recommended by Samsung and finally I used the easy way out and installed a PCI SATA Controller Card to which I connected the hard drive and it seems to work well.
