I sold a used laptop which has always worked fine to someone and he
used it for a few weeks and then took it to friends of his in France.
They say that within a day it stopped working. I have it back and when
you try to boot it up all the right lights go on but all you get is a
flashing cursor and a blank screen. I had someone put the drive in
another identical laptop and it worked fine so I know its not the
drive...does anyone have any clues to analyse or fix the problem ?

What OS do you have on it? (win95/98, 2000?). I belive thats an older
laptop that comes with an external floppy drive. Perhaps you can make
a windows 98 boot floppy, and then re-install the OS. It sounds like
perhaps they may have some how corrupted your boot files on the hard
drive. If the machine boots up in another computer then it may be a
hardware problem. Perhaps re-seating the memory would help out or
removing one memory chip at a time to determine if one got damaged.
