Hi,

I am looking into building my first computer. I have pretty much decided on what parts I want. Before I place an order for the parts, can someone please let me know if my components will play together nicely? I plan to have the ram run at 1600.

Thanks!

I dunno much about ATI graphics, Im an Nvidia guy myself. But your card is 256 bit. Id maybe jump to something higher

you are right , you dont know much about ATI graphics card or DDR5 being quad rate instead of GDDR3 being only double data rate and needing 512 bit buses.

The build looks good

Id have a look at some combos on newegg and see if you can save a little on the cost

build looks great.

only suggestion would be to pick up a nice aftermarket cooler and OC that 945.

------------------------------ i7 920 @ 3.33gHz, X58-UD4P, 6GB OCZ Gold 1333mHz, 4890 @ 925mHz, WD Caviar Black 500 and 640 GB, PCP&C 750W, and a CM V8 all stuffed into a CM 690

the video card is fine, it compares to nvidia gtx275....that being said for about the same price you could crossfire 2 4870s and get better bang for your buck.

Are you planning to overclock your Phenom II?

ignore that last post, prices have gone up again. Hard to keep track with the prices changing all the time. 2x 4850s would also give you a slight boost in performance, but not as much as the 2 4870s. I would get one 4870 now, overclock it, and add another when the price drops again. My logic against the 4890 is that it is just a small step above the 4870, and that is pretty much erased with an overclocked 4870, but it cost significantly more.

^ yeah but the reason why price drops would happen for that card is because the 5870 is coming out soon.

Thank you for the comments all. I don't plan to OC the Phenom...they have nice combo at newegg where you can get $60 off the MB.

I will take your suggestion and get the 4870. Reason I am going with ATI is because I can hybridcross fire with the onboard GPU and get an extra 15% boost in performance. I can look at getting another when prices drop like you suggested.

Thx

Hopefully I'm not too late but you can save an extra $40 on the RAM by going with this (unless you got the RAM with a combo then it is up to you):
OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ3P16004GK - Retail

It has the same frequency but lower timings so it will be slightly faster.

Also since you are Canadian I suggest using this site to find the lowest prices on some products from other sites unless you only trust Newegg.
