Trying to install old HP hardrive in gateeway FX

Hello,

i have a Gateway 6840, i7 CPU, 12.0 GB of Ram, where i have added an 160 GB SSD hardrive. I have know added an old HB hardrive in the removable hardrive carriers, with the inttention to have acces to my old information, but there is no
sign of it, is this even possible. The new system is Windows 7, the old was XP.

Please help!

Go into disk management and see if the drive is listed there. If it is, assign it a drive letter then it will show up normally in windows. To get to disk management, clcik on start, then right-click "computer", then click on "manage". In the left pane, click on "disk management".

Does the drive show up in the bios boot screen or in the bios itself? If the bios can't see it, then windows won't be able to. Also, did you enable the SATA port of the drive you installed.

No, the drive thus not show up in the bious boot screen, i dont know about the bious itselve, how thus one check that?

To enter your bios, there should be a bios startup key listed when booting. usually something like the "DEL" key or "F2". it might be listed as "setup", i.e. F2-Setup. Your computer manual should list all the bios settings.
