old linksys router replaced with a new one, cannot connect to internet on laptop. Have the net on dsktop.

I had a Linksys router and I assume you're talking about connecting wirelessly.
check your router configuration by entering 192.168.1.1 as the address
default user name is usually blank and password is usually admin
