Windows XP Printing - Make "Current Page" default

Hello,
The default setting in XP for Printing is All. My wife prints a 20 page web page to get one page and then throws out the rest. Waist. I want "Current Page" to be the default print setting. Is there a registry change for this? Thanks!

  1. No, just tell her to select that when she prints or unplug the printer. 20 pages on an inkjet is like $5 worth of ink with pictures.
  2. Thanks. My wife cannot rememeber process. That is why I am trying to get this myself.
  3. Hm.. how about this. Setup a default printer as an XPS or MS Office Document Image Writer, or maybe get a free Adobe PDF printer. Then when she prints it will save as a file. She will have to type in a file name, but that's not too hard. When you get to it, print those files for her and select the pages that are needed. You can also shrink it, print 2 pages a sheet, etc...
  4. Hey All, thanks for the input. I am being asked to select the best answer. I was surprised I did not get the hack I needed. No one knows how to make this registry or ini hack? The default setting in XP for Printing is "All". There is a black radio button selected for you. I want "Current Page" to be the default print setting. Thanks!

  5. There is no registry change that does that, it's only active that one time when you print, and it's from the printer drivers.

There is a pretty complex command line tool you can use to modify lots of printer options

There is a way to make a Hot key for that. Download and install "autohotkeys" (freeware) http://www.autohotkey.com/
then set up a script for a key you don't use often, I use ` key. then when you go into the adobe pdf printer, click the hot key and it will automatically make all the keystrokes that will print current page only.

email me if you want the script and more info. jaknowlton@comcast.net
