I would like to replace the hard drive in my Gateway M250 laptop. It currently has an 80gb drive. This is an older laptop and I want to be sure I get the right one (and a good one). I also want to migrate the drives partition that has the original system files on it (Gateway used to send the machines with a recovery partition which would load windows, etc..).

Can anybody tell me the following:

1. Best brand, and place to buy, a replacement 80gb drive?
2. Best software and easiest instructions to migrate the existing drive's C: and D: partitions in their EXACT form. The D partition is the one with the original system files on it. System is running XP and I want to keep it like that.

Thanks!

Mike

Here are the specs for this computer: http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Gateway/M250/2900782sp3.shtml

1) From the specs, you can install 80 GB or 100 GB HDD. It does not say whether the HDD is SATA or IDE (PATA) - you will have to open the HDD bay anyway, and then you can determine which type it is. Good brands are WD and Seagate. Here is one example of a PATA drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136129

2) To clove the existing HDD onto another new HDD, use this: http://www.apricorn.com/product_detail.php?type=family&id=39
I have used this and it works very well. Software included - instructions very clear.
