My computer sometimes hard crashes to the blue screen of DEATH. Normally it says that one of my processors clocks missed. I was thinking of upgrading my CPU and getting Windows 7. But I am not sure if that will really solve the problem. Right now I'm running Vista 64. My specks are.

CPU- AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6400 clock speed 3200.0 MHz

MOBO- Asus M2N-SLI NVDIA nForce4 MCP

Memory- 4gig DDR2

Video Card- Nvidia geforce 8600 GT 512 Mb cash.

I was thinking of upgrading my CPU and just getting Windows 7. ( Ran the windows 7 upgrade advisor and got the red light. )

The CPU I am looking at is something like AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Dual Core Processor - 3.10GHz, Socket AM3, 6MB Cache, 2000MHz (4000 MT/s)

I'm not really sure where to go from here, or even if this is right right direction to go in. I've upgraded all my drivers, turned off some services, did all the things I could to set my computer to concentrate on performance. I built my computer from pieces I bought myself two years ago. All of the hardware is out of warranty right now, and I don't have the money to spend to get an entire new rig.

Any suggestions?
