I have a laptop (HP zd7140us) with XP Pro on it. The laptop has a touchpad.
I also have a Microsoft IntelliMouse, which plugs into the USB port.
All works very well, with the exception of the mouse wheel. It works, but I
like to have it scroll by 3 lines rather than 1. I can set
the wheel to scroll by 3 lines and everything is fine, until I reboot - when
the setting appears to have been lost.

My laptop had version 7.5 from April 2003 installed, though it was
bought in June 2004. In my case, it was enough to install the last
version (7.8.10) of Synaptics' generic touchpad driver to solve the
scroll wheel problem.
