As the title states, i am getting a power supply and am unsure what a molex connector is used for. I do not know if it is either used for old hard drives, of witch mine is not the case as the psu and computer use SATA, or if it is used for cd drives?

Please help as i am quite confused

Hi.

A molex connector is this:

And it's used for connect old CD/DVD or HDD drives that comes with that power connection type, for example like this:

Sometime you can buy a converter from molex to SATA for connect SATA drives if your SATA power connectors aren't enough in your PSU.

If your components CD/DVD/HDD/SSD are SATA, you don't need those molex power connectors.

Thanks man for the pictures. They help a lot as i am more of a visual learner. So my psu comes with 4 SATA connectors, so i would guess that is enough and between those four, i use one of them to use for the cd driver? Am i right or wrong?
