New computer How do I transfer E mails

i have purchased a Dell (2nd hand) which has been 'cleaned down' professionaly and having seen in Computer Active that you can use your old Hard Drive as an external USB drive so have set it into a 3.5"HDD Enclosure .I amableto access all the items out of my old hard drive but cannot retrieve my e mails or E mail addresses.Please can you help in simple terms.

You are trying to retrieve them using the old hard drive ?
Your old hard drive, is now essentially nothing more than a huge flat file to the OS.
What the H does clean down mean ?

Bring up your browser, go to your ISP or email client and sign in to emails !
