Suddenly no sound

sound worked fine until this afternoon..winxp home..reloaded drivers for mobo, as well as online from web site drivers. c media audio installed as well as realtek..ran system restore back a week..all reports say all drivers and devices working..all cables plugged in correctly..nothing new downloaded..ran spyware, reg cleaners..etc..still no sound..my only other thought is onboard sound csrd is shot...if thats the case..can i install a seperate soundcard ? any help appreciated.thanks..pj..

If your onboard sound gave out, you can install a PCI soundcard.

i thought i could..but this morning the sound was back to normal..first time this pc has burped in almost six years since i built it...thanks..
