Hi guys,

I haven't kept up to date with the PC development for quite some time - actually since I bought my last PC that has served me well for the past 6 years. It was a P4 2.4 Northwood with AsusP5P800 mobo but finally the mobo gave up and some of the capacitors went dead so I need to buy me new one.

I had intended to upgrade once Blizzard release SC2 and D3 so that I am sure I will be able to play those games at top quality but...

Given the economical environment I tend to want to get something cheaper - meaning good second hand components that I can combine and overclock.

I have decided to go for either Asus P5Q Turbo or for DFI LANPARTY UT P45-T3RS - I can get each for around 80 - 90 Euro which is around 120 USD. I decided to get me a brand new Mobo because I do not want to risk it with a second hand.

I have several options but since they are very different in different price ranges it is hard to make a decision:

C2D E4400 - around 40 Euro - 60 USD
C2D E6750 - around 60 Euro - 90 USD
C2D E8200 - around 80 Euro - 120 USD

All are second hand and from what I've read the past several days trying to get back in the loop If I had to choose between the E8200 and E6750 I would probably go with the E8200. The issue actually is - is the E4400 good enough so that it would keep me from upgrading for the next 3 years or so while being able to play StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3 :)

So if you could help me decide cos it seems I am not seeing the bigger picture here which makes it really hard for me to decide. Any alternatives are welcome.

Best Regards
Jimmy

It's your money; any of those cpus will play games; I used a piece of copper tape to force an overclock with my old e4300, changing it from 800 fsb to 1066 fsb; the knowledge is posted in yahoo under "pin mod". But the e6750 (middle of the road choice) might be best if you don't want to overclock or have a weak power supply.

Thanks o1die. I actually intend to overclock the CPU - if I get the 4400 i would have to do that right away i think. while with the other two options I will overclock eventually if i get a performance shortage...

get the e6500 if you can

Why is the 6500 better than the 6750?
