Bios settings Cpu clock/voltage problems

Hi my computer has recently started slowing down and i believe it is because of faulty bios settings cause I remember having to reset them though im not sure. So here is the deal, When i Use coretemp to show me my cpu frequency I noticed that it changes back and forth from 2331.25mhz (333.05x 7.0) to 1998.21mhz (333.04x 6.0) the Vid also changes from 1.1750 to 1.1500v when the change occurs, It happens frequently if I continue to watch it. The cpu I have is rated for 2.5ghz but I had boosted the voltage originally to about 2.8ghz When I originally had the computer. Basically I want to know if I have a setting wrong between the cpu stuff the ram stuff and whatnot or if the cpu is failing or something. If you need me to provide any info feel free to ask and ill get it to you. But ill post an everest hardware summary in hopes I get it all in one go. Thank you so much in advance.

Firstly, your CPU is supposed to change clocks speeds dynamically according to whatever load its under. Its called speedstep, or C1E, or enhanced halt state or whatever. It works at a lower multiplier when its under low load, and tops at the multiplier set in the BIOS only when needed.

You said you boosted the "voltage" to 2.8GHz, I assume you meant the frequency. Unless you have stability or temperature issues, you can rule out the core voltage as a source of your problems.

I believe your slowdowns may be coming from the software side, watch your taskmanager when they happen. Look for processes that take too much CPU time.

If you are really not convinced about the clock throttling, you can always disable it in the BIOS. Look for C1E.

When I first had the computer put together by me and a friend, We had it stable running at 2.8ghz now it doesnt get past 2.3. I installed another 4gb of ram and the computers bios reset when the comp was in storage and the battery died I tried my best to put it back the way it was, But Think I got something wrong. The processor itself is rated when new out of box for 2.5ghz and even when I put the computer underload I cant push it past the 2.3mark with current settings And by load I mean stress tests that max all 4 cores to 100%
