Someone here had a link to a site which gave an IBM employees number
that could be used for a discount. I seem to have lost this link and
now I find myself needing a Thinkpad rather quickly. Anyone remember
this link?

Correct me if I am wrong, but: Wouldn't it be illegal to use such an
number if you are not an IBM employee?

You are incorrect. They have or had a friends of IBM program where
friends of employees could obtain this discount. Don't know if it
still exists but it certainly did at one time.

Do you actually *know* patrick web, or did you merely send him an
email purporting to be his friend to extract his employee number?

Just to interject: I have a friend that allowed me to shop IBM on
their employee discount, but ended up getting a much better price by
shopping around.

For instance, a year ago the A31p that I wanted was well over $2000
(if memory serves) at IBM employee discount, and I bought it for $1700
at USaveGelt.com in New York (last time I looked they didn't have
them). I got an external floppy drive for about $25 less than IBM's
discount price at another place (forget where... old age).
