Belkin usb stick

Hello, i have bought a belkin usb stick, i cant get it to work, i have a windows xp comp, it says i have excellent signal but still it wont connect? i dont know a lot about computers, help?

When it shows excellent signal, is that actually your own network it's looking at? Has it asked you for a wireless security key to join that network?
