Hi,
I've just completed my new PC and i have some problems when playing 1080 video formats. The playback works for 3-4 minutes and then the system restarts itself. I'm using Windows XP Professional (the one recognizing the 4GB ram) and this happened to me using both KMPlayer and VLC.

The CPU is Intel Core 2 Duo 3GHz, 2x2048 Corsair Dual Channel 1066MHz XMS2 Dominator, and a Gigabyte GeForce 9500GT 512MB DDR2.

I'm running on a dvi-hdmi cable on a samsung t240HD although i don't think this could be the problem.
Could you please tell me what to check in order to identify the problem? Maybe some monitoring software i can use while playing the problematic videos so that I'll see if some parameter goes sky-rocketing at the time?

Welcome to the forums!

Check the GPU temperature with GPU-Z.
Try pointing a fan at the video card with the side panel off.

80-90ºC is average
115ºC is threshhold
127ºC burnout

Some cards report 100ºC as threshold in Rivatuner, such as 8800GT.

Remove the dust from the fan. Reapply thermal paste.
Regulate the fan with Rivatuner.

The power supply is Rasurbo DLP-535 / 530 Watt
The GPU Temperature is around 44ºC when not playing anything. I'll just edit the post with temperature at the moment of the restart.

l.e.: it restarted very fast. the temperature was 45 ºC. This is the log file:

Get a more powerful powersupply would be my advice. Corsair at 650W would be more than enough + that getting a quality powersupply which is rated high in watts keeps the noise from it down also.

thats bull a more powerful power supply for a crap card like that, it's funny i see post about people with a 7600gt or 8500gt or 9400gt and what always happens get a new power supply, and if people are stupid and buy a $100 power supply for a card like that you have way to much money to burn it's the drivers

Since the powersupply is one of the most important components in the PC, I wouldn't say it's stupid, but of course everyone has a right to an opinion.

If there's a way of solving the problem without replacing the powersupply it will get cheaper of course, especially if it's a software problem.

Download the latest nVidia drivers from nvidia.com. If it's an xfx nVidia card you should get them directly from their place since their drivers are better optimized.

Changed to Windows 7 64bit and got the display drivers from the website. They released the Win7 drivers.
Now everything works fine. No more rebooting.
