in the past year and a half I have had to buy 4 new hard drives. After the first two I suspected dirty power and bought a UPS and that made the drives last a bit longer but they still die ultimately.

Well I had another one die last night. I haven't had it too terribly long. I'm beginning to suspect my PSU.

AMD Phenom X4 2.5 GHZ
4 gig DDR2 Ram
2 BFG 9800 GXT in SLI
1000 watt modular PSU

What kind of drives and what kind of PSU? Brands are important here.

For example, some Seagate 7200.11 drives had a nasty firmware problem that turned them into bricks.

Funny you should mention the Seagate 7200.11 because that's what I have. The PSU is an Ultra X3 with a sticker on it that says "Actice PFC".

**EDIT**

Come to think of it, all the drives have been that same model. (Good price point)

Well, since I'm going out to buy a new hard drive today I'm thinking of getting a 64 gig solid state drive to run my OS and a 500 gig for storage. What do you think?
