Why is my computer not recognizing my hard drive

Hello,
i am trying to change my computer to windows xp,, i am currently running windows 7, when i am putting the windows xp disk in my laptop it is saying it cant find a hard drive? why is this? because when i go into my computer my c hard drive is there! please help

Your computer must have a SATA hard drive, and XP does not recognize SATA drives without installing an additional driver when prompted.

The easiest fix is to go into your BIOS and set the hard drive and DVD drive to IDE or ATA mode. Then XP will load just fine.
