Could somebody please tell me if there will be any big differences between the two laptops:

HP dv7-2185dx with a Quad Core Q9000 2GHz processor, 500 gb hd, ati radeon graphic card and 6 DDR2 ram

or

Hp dv7-3085dx with Intel® Core™ i7-720QM processor; 6GB DDR3 memory.

What do you use it for? What graphics chip is in each one? Whats the price difference? Oh and i hope you dont plan to use it on your lap or there will be chestnuts roasting on an open fire, they also tend to be super heavy to accommodate the added battery power.

It's going to be my desktop replacement. The Quad has the ATI Radeon and the i7 has the NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M. The price is the same 1299.99. There will be no roasting of chestnuts going on here :)

Which radeon does it have in it? For just gaming, pick which ever one has the stronger GPU, however if you are going to be doing video editing or transcoding the i7 will be better off.

The i7 is definitely faster. Which Radeon though - a faster graphics card can more than make up for a slower CPU if it is to be used primarily for gaming.

The graphocs card on the Intel 2 Quad is: Video Graphics ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 (M96)
Video Memory Up to 2815MB (1024MB dedicated)
