Hey, is it possible to have a headset and use only the headsets mic and use the computers own speakers as the sound? Does this work with all headsets or is it only avaible in higher cost ones?

I do this occasionally right now, my headset uses a mic plugin, and audio. So basicaaly I have my headset plugged in the back, and my speaker plugged into my front audio port. The audio plays through the speaker but the mic works, when I want to play audio through the headset I unplug the speakers.

I'm not sure if this would work with a usb headset though.

im in windows 7.

i have my speakers plugged into my soundcard. my headset is usb and plugged in seperately. when i right click the audio icon in the taskbar and select my speakers as the playback device, my microphone on my headset remains as my recording device.

so yes... you can have playback on speakers and recording on mic.
